Widening Narrowband.org
I should’ve known. The two-column layout wouldn’t stay for long. Even my old blogs ran on three-columns. And because I love this theme, I decided to modify it. Obviously it’s much easier to modify an existing theme compared to creating a new one from scratch.

As you can see, I’ve added a second sidebar and rearranged the contents. The site would still be Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional as well as CSS if it weren’t for the external RSS feeds added in the second sidebar. I don’t know if I should put them here on the site (and share it with you guys) or just keep ‘em in my Feedreader. For one, these feeds do increase the pages’ loading time.
I’ve also added a MyBlogLog widget on the sidebar - something many bloggers have begun using. Yahoo! owns it now ;)It’s been removed! It practically froze my site’s loading time! I couldn’t stand it. Other changes made include the header images. I’ve changed a new set of (4) header images to fill the wider space. Previous images were too ‘default’ (read: common), because for some reason they’re very popular on stock.xchng (Darn… everybody goes there for stock images).
The new header images were sourced from stock.xchng too, but I’ve done some editing so they don’t appear ‘too familiar’ to you (in case you’ve seen them before!). In any case, I don’t know if the site’s been ‘improved’ - because as far as the loading time is concerned, it’s bad! Then again, my internet connection has been very poor these days. I’ll need to check with TMNet soon.
Meanwhile, enjoy reading and I shall improvise accordingly from time to time.

Almost valid W3C ! hahaha…
i like what u’ve done to your site, but i dont really fancy 3 column blogs… i’d rather put more space into my content so i can put pictures about 500px - 550px.
but i may take another look at it coz with a loooooooong sidebar, i normally have a huge white space if my posts are short..
im figuring out how to provide another sidebar when i view a single post..
Cincau, I get what you mean. Two sidebars only when viewing a single post? Wow.. haha! I’m sure you’ll figure that out soon enough! :)
I just hope nobody on 800*600 views my site. That’s an obsolete resolution :p.
It’s till very neat by the way.
I can’t get my template to be those valid bla bla bla. Gave up fixing it.
Broading the narrowband = so wat now, broadband or narrowband?! So confusing.. hehehe~
no, i mean a shorter sidebar.. i gotta read the wordpress api more.. lol…
my theme is valid, but some of the plugins i installed arent.. so technically, it’s still not valid.. :(
Jason, you could try correcting the error messages ;) Usually, one small ‘mistake’ could result in more than one error messages.
Jian - ;)
Cincau - Sigh. That means mine is ‘technically invalid’ too.
nevermind.. it still means ur theme is valid.. good for distribution - if you wanna do so.. ;P
w00t, i kembang on your behalf! And your header pic is cool. :)
Next time you mod my site for me okay? Heehee
Hey I like this new look. Very clean. Loading time is fast too.
Wanna ask you something, what software (freeware) do you use for blog tweaking?
Umph I mean let’s say I download a new theme but I want to tweak the theme first before activating it.
All these while I’ve been tweaking it while my theme is active. Like this no suprise to my reader..hahaha
Cincau - I rarely come across someone who appreciates xhtml and css validity. I’m glad we have something in common;p
Julee - *ahem*. You mean pics? haha. Waitaminute, I noticed an increase in pageloads compared to unique visits - Did anyone here contribute to that? The header images rotate randomly with each load. There’re 4 of them! :).
I chaaarrrrge… a month’s supply of baskin robbins!! Jk ;)
Che-cheh - Thanks! I know what you’re talking about - I don’t think there’s a software/proggie for that (not that I know of, anyway). What I do is… create a new folder in your hosting, install a fresh Wordpress into that folder and test til the cows come home. In fact I spent quite some time doing it on my ‘test blog’. It’s still a ‘live’ blog, but with all dummy entries and images for testing purposes.
I know many people do that, too! :) Oh btw, if you plan to do so in near future, try Wordpress 2.1! I just installed it in my test blog. (Btw you could password-protect your test blog to restrict access).
lol… i think im obsessive in making it valid.. :P
anyways, making it valid normally will guarantee that it will work in almost all browsers..
mine works with IE7 and FF only.. IE6 fails horribly.. =.=
I like the way you modified this theme. I’ll stick to two columns for now but I made it 800px instead of what it was originally. It made more sense than to re-do my headers… Still in works.
Could you tell me what to tweak to re-size the bottom white border. the one with rounded corners?
I’ve managed the rest through the css file and a mod to a gif for the background.
Any help would be appreciated
Nevermind, missed the other graphic, guess I just needed to sleep on it!
