Impak Maksima, for the Malaysian Drift Enthusiasts
In fact, it may even appeal to any motorsport junkie. We had Remp-it (loosely associated with the term “Mat Rempit”, coined specially for illegal motorcycle racers) some time back. That movie, Remp-it, was about a group of people who was involved in illegal motorcycle races - which itself is a real-life nuisance in Malaysia. Later this year, we will have a new movie based on drifting on four wheels. Here’s the trailer uploaded by a YouTube user yesterday:
The trailer of Impak Maksima (”Maximum Impact” in English) begins with cars zipping and drifting around the KL city center at night. The city roads are pretty flat, and wide too. I wonder if they had attempted to film in Genting Highlands. There are some funny fighting scenes as well - most notable one would be the 360-degrees spinning kick. It’s abit of an overkill (read: unnecessary), but nicely executed nonetheless.
Among the stars of the movie is Tengku Djan’s heavily modified red rear-wheel-drive Proton Waja. That’s probably the only rear-wheel-drive Proton Waja in the world. A yellow AE86 is thrown in as well, otherwise it’s not ‘drift-racing’ anymore. This is of course thanks to the Japanese manga, Initial D, from which the AE86 gained immense popularity despite its age. Other cars in the trailer include Nissan Skyline, Cefiro and Sylvia.
Will the movie impress the Malaysian Censorship Board? Since Remp-it could pass, I believe Impak Maksima will, too. I may even make my way to the theaters to catch it. Here’s a quote taken from the trailer:
Orang nak main kereta, lu pun nak main kereta! Lain kali kalau tak ada duit, jadi Mat Rempit aje lah!
Impak Maksima… coming to a theater near you!

*dunno what to say*
Malaysia boleh?
i have met and seen tengku jhan’s drifting a couple of times and believe me its really impressive. he’s a really nice guy (but the gf is one stuck up B) but believe me, sitting in the car while he’s driving makes you scared as hell.
Have to get someone from Malaysia to send me a dvd of the movie.
At least the title of the movie is not misleading like “Deep Impact”, or is it?! Hmm.. deep or maximum.. either way, it might be good and showcase Msian hobby.
Angel - Boleh, boleh ;)
Hi Manda! What a privilege to get chauffeured by him!
Adam - You can’t miss this one eh?
Jian - And promote street racing. Hehe.
Thanks for dropping by, everyone.
finally you resumed blogging.
the google thing was a good one. Lol.
i dun get how come the whole movie i did not seen a chinese or any other race/actor. i do not want to imply anything. but isn’t the drifter in the movie 5 kor ? he drifted but the acting was replace by some other people ?
In my opinion, that shouldn’t be an issue. It’s not an issue at all. I don’t think there was a special directive that says “This movie is exclusively for actors of this ethnicity only”. The drifter in that movie (”5 kor” or something? I have never heard of it.. sorry :-/ ..), could have been just a drifter - a real-life drifter and not an actor.
His drifting skill was required, therefore he was hired to do it. But he might not have been an actor - Acting wasn’t his profession. That’s how the business is run (the movie-making business) … The casting is lined up but some of them may not have the skill for a certain scene, so the production company hires an expert for that scene.
That’s also how stunt-men are hired.
You’re thinking too much ;). I hope you’ll enjoy the movie!
…The name sounds like that of a cheap porn movie.
Sorry for the double post, for some reason only the first line got through. This looks like it’s going to be an interesting entry in Malaysian cinemas. Frankly, I’m scared and a little excited. What bothered me, though, is the crappy sound effects and lack of tyres squealing. I can already see the accusations of it being a ripoff of the Fast and the Furious films.
We’ll just have to wait and see. We rarely get to see an all-original work here in Malaysia. The bolder, more creative directors often get into trouble with the censorship board. I think that hurts the industry.

tak sabar rasanye nk tak citer ni
i think that evolusi kl drift is better lar……
becouse evolusi kl drift movie used real car to flip and crash in the movie…
impak maksima used computer graphics…
besides,kl drift use film camera…
impak maksima use only hd camera…
I have watched Impak Maksima and its story line was ripped off from 2 Fast 2 Furious and Initial D. Impak Maksima’s action is too DULL and they keep racing at the same spot. Most of the scenes especially crashing scenes was Computer Generated and it is totally fake. I think the Producer of impak maksima is rushing to make this movie that he forgot to about its quality. I would support Evolusi Kl Drift because although it came out late but im sure it has quality and the actions is not fake!! How did i know ? Watch The Making Of EKD at YouTube.. You can see all of their action is not using CGI !!
evolusi much better la. tis movie crappy giler.. whats with the car flipping and exploding? nampak fake sgt. frust giler.. evolusi’s drifting pun so much better. believe me! now dont forget 2 watch evolusi kl drift starring much better looking actors, using better camera and cooler drifting…
watch making of evolusi kl drift at youtube.. can see the real car getting smashed. cool man! bravo
this story is suck for its animation!
