Quote of the Day

I need to hand in a report in both soft and hard copies. Email attachments are not accepted (welcome to my 21st century, aspiring “world-class” university). Instead of using a CD (where much of the 700MB capacity will be wasted), the good ol’ floppy came to mind. I went to my sister (I consider her ‘quite’ net-savvy; she’s 14) and asked if she has a floppy disk.

Me: Do you have a floppy disk?
Sis: What is a floppy disk?

And I swear she meant it. It seems like floppy disks are steadily making their way into museums.

tell u one more… 7 years ago, i was serving in an uniformed organisation, looking after some small kid (aged 5 – 12). we had some games and there were some prizes.

the winner was decided and i was given the honour to give out the prizes. one of the prize was the classic “snake and ladder”… i gave it to a 7 year old kid… he looked at it… and said…

“sir… is there a cheat code?”

  10. Angel – Hey, they’ve gone obsolete ok! Nobody talks about VHS these days. Dun blame salespeople :p Hahaha.

Jason – These are just the tip of the iceberg.

Wuching – You should know. You’ve been in Australia for many years right? It’s Crocodile Dundee, what else.

Oh Jian CRTs aren’t that outdated yet, dun worry. I’m using a CRT at home, and in your office there are at least 3 CRTs already. They’ll be around for quite a while more ;)

    Cybie – Floopy? What’s a floopy? I dunno too.. A type of candy? ;p

Zewt – Whhoa.. that kid’s advanced, man! Tech these days really make us feel old huh…

Che-cheh – We’re witnessing a tech-revolution! Isn’t it exciting?! When I was my sis’ age (14) I was still learning how to log in to MIRC!!

Hooiching – Ya, come to think of it, yes. But then I have many unused, old diskettes… Even though my house has 4 computers, only one has a floppy drive, lol… The diskettes are practically useless now.

Cincau – OMG… *faints*. While the rest of the world are advancing towards newer tech, there are indeed some others who’re still quite left behind…. hehehe… You sure she wasn’t joking… I hope she’s not a blonde?

  12. Dude…dun feel bad, i still have those 5 1/4 inch diskette with LODE RUNNER game and Apple program inside. :) Days of those 286′s!

    Comment by stupe — April 13, 2007 #

  13. Imagine if she sees one of those old 5 1’4 inch floppy, she will ask, “whats that for?”

    Comment by nicktay — April 13, 2007 #

  14. But then come to think of it, being net-savvy has got nothing to do with knowing what floppy disk is, right Smashie?

I would have thought they’ve gone extinct, stupe!

She’s probably seen one of those, Nick. It’s just that she doesn’t know what they’re called!

    Thanks for dropping by!
