Lewis Hamilton Leads the Pack
It’s official: Lewis Hamilton is leading the World Drivers’ Championship. He finished third in his debut race in Melbourne, followed by three consecutive second-place finishes in Sepang, Bahrain, and just about an hour ago, in Barcelona. That, my friend, is a kind of performance that many could only dream of achieving. The commentator said that we were often told to ‘manage our expectations’ and not pile too much pressure on the 22-year old British rookie (similarly echoed by Bernie Ecclestone). But if he goes on finishing in the podiums like that, it’s rather difficult to ‘manage our expectations’!

I say what we’re looking at here is a champion in the making, because his performance so far has been no less than mind-blowing. Today’s race also saw the retirement of Kimi Raikkonen due to mechanical failures - what a disappointment, but that’s motor racing. Tough luck! Massa was top-class, having started from the front of the grid and went on to win the race, his second consecutive victory. ESPN Star Sports had been erratic today - I don’t know about the earlier part of the race (was in Italiannies for dinner) but the Chequered Flag programme was plain crap. There was no coordination at all.
Anyway, I have said this before and I’m going to say it again: F1 is getting more and more exciting with each completed race - something we haven’t seen in a long time. And I daresay that Lewis Hamilton contributes at least 75% to the excitement. He makes it seem all too easy to finish in the podiums, and in doing so he makes everyone go “Wow!”.
By the way, here’s a quotable quote by Lewis Hamilton:
I compete against my brother on the new PS3 F1 game and he’s very competitive. He likes to be a McLaren driver, so I am Kimi Raikkonen. I can’t wait for the new game so I can be myself!
Lewis is also considering moving to Monaco, home to many F1 legends. Ah!

why ppl like alexander yoong failed so miserably in his debut season…
Lol Zewt, I think it’s got alot to do with opportunities and a little bit of luck. Lewis’ team is McLaren leh. Alex debuted with Minardi! And I personally think the government and the relevant bodies were deliberately (by that, I mean, it was ‘natural’…) trying to field a Malaysian in that prestigious sport… They sang praises and stuff. It was a big hoo-haa but never lasted long.
By the way, Alex was guest commentator during the Barcelona race just now. Heh.
Interesting! I just may take up watching F1 again. *grin*
Lost interest in the sport after the retirement of Mika Hakkinen (no, not Michael Schumacher! *bleargh*) and even more so after the rise of Fernando Alonso (dangerous driver!) and the final straw was the ‘defection’ of Kimi Raikkonen to Ferrari (Nooo… anywhere BUT Ferrari!).
Btw, Lewis Hamilton reminds me of Tiger Woods in that photo up there.
Way to go Mclaren! woot~
Hahaha I just blogged that F1 is getting boring. :PPP
Chequered Flag programme abit gilar2 yesterday. Maybe coz EPL matches are starting and they have no time to wrap it up fast. No interview whatsoever. And hey why Paula Malai get to go to Monaco.
Rinnah - Noo, I don’t dare to guarantee that *watching* the race will be interesting, aha. Because as pointed out by Che-cheh, the race was boring. I don’t know this, however, because I didn’t watch the race. I was out for Mom’s Day dinner.
Lewis is similar to Tiger Woods in the sense that both are doing really well in their respective areas of expertise.
Voch - I’m with Ferrari this season :p. But I like the way Lewis is racing too, so only Lewis. Alonso… urm… maybe he can take 4th.
Che-cheh - Yea! And the hosts actually interrupted one another on air - I mean, it’s bad enough that the programme went hay-wire, and the two had to cut each other out (in particular, Paula didn’t wait til her partner had finished talking!).
And yeah she gets to go to Monaco and I’m damn jealous *green-eyed*.
lovely entry you have here :)
missed the race ler ….. darn ! was following epl instead.
shall wait for the next race :D
Thanks, cccp.
It’s okay, Sat, just catch the highlights lah :p Watch out for Lewis in the next race! (Heck, watch out for him in every race from now on!)

*Nods in agreement*
Alonso should be panicking now coz his teammate (also a rookie) outperforms him, both driving the same McLaren cars. Blek. Bwahahah. Kimi’s mechanical failure was damn disappointing :( I went to sleep after that.
It’s great that Lewis Hamilton is the breath of fresh air that F1 needed. He makes me proud to be British.
Sweewon - At 22, this guy is already making such an impact. Imagine how much he’s worth next year, at 23. Where are we at 23 huh? LOL… *shakes head*
…He makes me proud to be British…. I am sure he does, Steve!
