Closing a Chapter, Opening Another
Posted by narrowband - 28/05/07 at 11:05:12 pm[Edit@30th May 2007: The slideshow has been updated with a newer version. Some rearrangements have been made, and all transition, zooming and encoding settings have been improved for better quality.] When the invigilator announced, “Students, you must stop writing now,” I saw many of my coursemates shook hands, and bade each other farewell. It was quite a sight, knowing that some of us may not be seeing each other again. Some others, however, will be working together in the same company. In any case, what’s for sure is that everyone will be leaving the university with mixed feelings: a heavy heart, a tinge of sadness, a little bit of joy, and maybe some sense of pride. I, for one, will definitely miss my former housemates and friends, the times we spent together and the happiness they’ve given me. I’ve had some of the best moments in my life with this bunch of people.
I lived with five housemates, 4 of whom were the darlings Steph, LW, Licia and Hui. Together with my roommate, HH, we’ve gone on trips, for movies, meals, to the library… practically almost everything there was to be done in a day, we’ve done them together (‘cept for probably bathing). We’ve developed a bond so close that I now miss the times we used to chat in the master room til the cows came home, the times when we’d all burn the midnight oil together, where Hui would sit facing me at the table, carrying her huge stuffed dog ‘Boo-boo’ while studying, and of course the moments we spent in Langkawi, PD, and Lang Tengah Island.
I remember it was not all nice and sweet. Four years of knowing each other – surely there were ups as many as there were downs. I recall the times when some of us suffered from a bad day and wouldn’t talk for the rest of the day – sometimes even a few days. But like water, we always made up and got talking again in no time. The guys from upstairs complete the big family and sometimes on certain occasions, we’d all head down to SK town and have ‘dai chow’ (dining in Chinese restaurants) together. I loved it when we’d sit around the table and discuss what dishes to order. We also made it a point to celebrate each other’s birthday every year and that’s one tradition I hope we will not stop practising.
I made a simple slideshow to highlight some of the happiest moments we used to have together throughout the past four years. I’ve produced similar video slideshows in the past but this time it’s a little different. Some of us will be working Penang, some in KL and other parts of the country. Life won’t be the same anymore for many of us, from this month onwards and God knows when we’ll have another outing together again, just like before.

Moon River, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style, someday
Old dream maker, you heartbreaker
Wherever you’re going, I’m going your wayTwo drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbow’s end
Waiting round the bend
My Huckleberry friend
Moon River, and me
Only those whose faces appear in the slideshow would understand the significance of each event, trip and experience we’ve had together. I love you guys lots and lots. I wish all other graduating students (and also a special friend, Cybie, who’ll be leaving for Singapore in pursuit of greener pastures) good luck in your future endeavors. And oh, by the by, Friendster is so last-century (although my account is still active), so bookmark* my blog! Ehe…

Oh my.. This is sooo nostalgic!
I remember when my housemates left for home, we cried so badly passers-by would’ve thought that somebody passed away! LOL.
But yeah, cherish all those beautiful moments, and pray that everybody will do well and that you will see each other again in the future..

HH – Thanks man. You too! Bookmark my blog. Hehe.
pelf – Wah we didn’t cry that badly. In fact no one shed any tear! So un-emo rite. Haha.
Aiyo Zewt, since last time you said you wanted to blog about that. Haha. I’ve found my career dy.
Alicia – Happy graduation, ehe. At least you had broadband. Deep inside Sg Buloh there is no broadband coverage – ‘somebody’ is affected. LOL.
Angel – Taklah, tak ditakutkan ;p Oh the presentation hor.. Sometimes I got all emotional watching it myself too. For some of us, it’s more than just the song. It’s when we relate each photo with the event/trip we had together.
Eh I just had fried oyster ;p But it was terrible (told you, the one in your neighbourhood). Haha.. I know I know it’s a figure of speech.. bler;p
Cincau – Siao meh! ;p

Welcome to the working world! Those memories with your buddies, you must keep close to your heart as you move on to the next phase of your life. Someday you will look back and marvel how far all of you would have gone from this time forth. (hehe, old auntie advice).
