The Week That Was…
I once mentioned that I would not be able to update my blog so often anymore since taking up employment. Like I predicted, I have little time for writing or reading blogs now. Luckily tomorrow is an off-day. I don’t feel like writing about anything in particular today. It’s been a while since I rambled aimlessly.
I’d like start with a quick health report - Narrowband.org’s traffic health report. Haha. I am absolutely thrilled beyond words that the graphs show an upwardly trend, despite the lack of updates. But as much as I’m happy with the graphs, I am utterly disgusted at how some of the hits got here. Hundreds of hits were via search engines with keywords like ‘nurin’, ‘jazlin’, ‘email’, ‘photo’, ‘nurin’s operation’ (!!), ‘picture’, etc.
Since the news reported that Nurin’s autopsy photos have been leaked on to the Internet, people have been searching high and low for them. I haven’t seen or received any of the photos - I’m not interested. It’s disturbing to know that people *do* want to see them. If I had my way, I’d bar all incoming hits from these sicktards because my site does not welcome them.
Let’s move on to something less depressing now. Did you watch the blast-off of Bolehland’s first Angkasawan? You know, despite the rising crime rates, mismanagement of public funds, and unequal economic opportunity that are not uncommon in Malaysia, I still stood and watched the lift-off in admiration and support for Dr Sheikh Muszaphar. I came out of the gym, went to a nearby HSL electrical store and picked my favorite LCD TV just in time for the launch. I resumed my workout shortly after the rocket disappeared into outer atmosphere.
I used to be among those who opposed the idea of sending a Bolehan into space. I didn’t think it was a good idea. In fact, I still believe that the money could have been better spent on something more practical and ’socially-relevant’. Some people even say it’s not Malaysia Boleh, but rather, Malaysia Ringgit Boleh! Nevertheless, watching the live telecast of a fellow countryman being launched into space was an amazing experience. I felt an unusually strong sense of belonging - I felt ‘connected’. I felt Malaysian. After all, I’m a Malaysian by any other name.
In the same vein, and true to the muhibbah spirit, I’d like to wish all my Muslim readers and friends Selamat Hari Raya, and to the rest of you, happy holidays!
P/s: I’ll be flying across the causeway for a 3-week assignment, so expect erratic updates. (LOL… not like it hasn’t been erratic already…)

happy hols!
Boy i really hope the blast off thing is somewhere in youtube or video sharing sites like tat.. much might have been spend on this, but i reckon this as cool, being the 1st thingy, cuz if not blasting up to space, the $$$ will unused.. at least we can say we have a flag somewhere up in space now.. :)
and bro enjoy the trip~! if i din get u wrong it’s to spore ei? u know u could meet someone u really like.. there.. :)
I didnt even know there was live telecast on TV. I guess i am so “malaysian”. LOL….
A compact briefing on what is happening recently in Malaysia. We malaysian “do” concern our safety n $$.. :P
Enjoy your 3 weeks assignment overseas and hope you meet some one special during that period lol..
happy 1st time going overseas for job assignment wishes to u!!! =P will miss u haha. update more ok will check on ur blog whenever i can. *hugz
i got quite a few hits from this nurin phenomena too, no idea how they could end up in my blog.
as for our first malaysian space tourist, i do not feel a tad bit of pride at all. i know he is going at the expense of toll being expensive, at the expense of petrol being expensive, at the expense of unnecessary purchase of fighter jet, at the expense of electric being expensive… all at our expense.
and then i heard they wanna send the second fella up there… i wonder how expensive will things go now. i definitely wanna blog about this.
I’m unaffected by our Bolehman angkasawan. Didn’t even bother to read the news about his launching too. LOL!
*sigh* No updates from Narrowband? One less interesting blog to read lor.
Have fun on your first overseas assignment! Don’t go break any hearts over there (unless you intend to la!)… *naughty grin*
Have a good trip across the causeway. Be looking forward to your interesting posts about the trip when you get back.
I did not see the blast off but I witnessed the time when they were in orbit. Not as exciting though.
Totally agree with you, btw, Americans did this already some 40 years back..
Perhaps I should have watched the live telecast, coz I still think that the money so soooo wasted!!! so many ppl could have benefit from it..
anyway, happy holiday ya! :D
and enjoy ur oversea assignments! while i’ll sit and wait till i rot for my turn.. :P
Malaysia Boleh! Selamat Hari Raya
I didn’t watch the live telecast of the launch. In fact i was sleeping at that time.. Yeah, once in a while i sleep early :)
i too have few hits from search engine searching for nurin’s autopsy picture. i didn’t post anything regarding nurin but i did write about autopsy related post (my own experiences) in the past. That’s how they ended up in my place - the word autopsy. Aiyh… that is truly disgusting, and disturbing.. Hope the police can catch the idiot who leaks out the photo.
Our dignity can be earned in a less costlier way. I am not against Dr Sheikh and his agendas, but more to the hidden agendas behind the blast and fireworks. As what Zewt has elaborated, the Rakyat has paid dearly for this momentous pride, which will show in the country’s balance sheet.
I hope the people up there can think of more sensible and practical methods of showcasing our Nation’s strengths. We just screwed up VMY2007 didn’t we?
That Dr Sheikh is one handsome guy wor.
You are in Singapore?
You bought a new LCD TV? Good bor?
Angel - Over the Selat Tebrau nia, paisehh… ;p Wei, is it just me, or is everybody saying Dr Sheikh’s one handsome fellow? Actually, I can see why’s that… hahaha…
Jian - I guess the videos and photos are splashed all over the internet. Try from this guy’s blog - I think he’s got a pretty good collection of videos, pics and articles!
Have a flag somewhere up in space? Where? We’re not even going to the moon. So let the flag ‘float’ in an orbit la? Hehehehe…
Yes you’re right. Oh, someone I really like, huh… Paying her a visit would be schweeet eh?
Mamakcorner - Wow I thought ‘Mamak corner’ should be a part of our Malaysian culture and all-things-Malaysian… In fact, ‘Mamak stalls’ in the “all-things-Malaysian” poll conducted by The Star not too long ago!
Tsk tsk :p At least watch and pray that taxpayer’s money don’t go up in smoke, and that our hensem Angkasawan will return home safely mar ;p
Keeyit - Ya, I reckon many of us were keeping our fingers crossed, wishing for a safe flight for our Angkasawan. We wouldn’t want anything untoward happen to him (and our money, of course!).
LOL… does meeting a Japanese project manager count as ’special’? Haha…
Hooiching - Tak menyeberang laut lar, selat aje. Yes please check my blog for updates as often as you can!! *Grins*
Zewt - Yes, the whole program is fueled by The People’s money. Maybe that’s why everyone was interested in the launch - hoping that at least (since the program *must* go ahead) the launch is a perfect and smooth one. On sending Capt. Dr Faiz… I really don’t know whether should be happy or sad…
Rinnah - Why, why, why? The Rakyat’s money fueling that rocket knoe!
Well I will update when I really feel the ‘urge’ to do so lar, no matter how susah. Last time when I really wanted to tell you guys about my harddisk failure, I painstakingly typed the whole entry (plus uploading an image, edited using the phone’s photo-editing software) and published ma ;p
Neeways, nowadays also I update abit jarang liao rite? Like almost on a weekly basis now… Oh well ;) On breaking hearts… LOL Rinnah… you sure have your way with words :p I don’t think I’ll even have the opportunity (and/or ability) to find one in the first place!
Giddy Tiger - Ahh, if got something interesting I sure will share one! ;D
W. Economist - Kenot compare la… Malaysia 40 years ago was still trying to reform schools, economy, etc etc ;p
Cbenc12 - Yes that’s why I say, mismanagement of public funds is not uncommon here! Happy holidays to you as well!! =)
Alicia - The same goes to you!
Chen - Wow 9.20pm sudah tidur! -_-” Sounds like an impossible ‘feat’ for me, hehee… I am still receiving alot of hits via those keywords, even as I’m writing this comment. Aih… the people working at the hospital (or wherever the autopsy was done) really unprofessional… Must be punished kaw kaw.
Yow Chuan - Sometimes I really wonder if the People have any say at all in multi-million ringgit-decision making process. The only ’say’ we have is during elections but even that is a little difficult!
I do not have anything against Dr Sheikh, except that he’s abit too good looking and has been getting alot of attention lately ;p Much less ‘agendas’… I’m sure he has none of those. He’s only a ‘passenger’, as far as this whole space-flight idea is concerned. The real masterminds or pilots are in the ranks of the powers-that-be. It’s the ‘people up there’ as you had put it.
VMY2007 could have been more effective, and more successful - that much I can say. It hasn’t been an absolute, complete failure though.
ECL - Ya lor. Everybody also says that. One handsome Angkasawan they sent up to space. Part-time model wor. I think that guy has achieved quite a bit in all his 35 years of his life. He’s already pretty successful in his own right.
I’m leaving next week, right after the Raya holidays! ;D
Neo - No lar I didn’t! -___-” That electrical store displayed so many models and brands mar, I just chose one that I liked and stood there and watched lor!
hey, look me up if you’re gonna be in sg! :)
i am with you on the view that it did seem like a waste of money but i would be lying if i said i wasn’t proud when the blast off happened. in fact i was at home with my nicely ta-paoed dinner, hooked on channel 588 waiting for the blast off with my entire family.
i guess no matter how we critisize whatever people do, we are still very very proud when it actually happens. =) human nature i suppose.
HAPPY EID!!! =) to all celebrating it and to the rest who are just waiting about for the lemang and the rendang! =)
Happy Working from wherever you are…hahaha
sigh… nurin case, i wonder why people are so interested in her after-death-effects. it was a really sad case, really, but looking all over for her autospy? respect the dead, please, for god’s sake.
and yeah, i too once opposed the idea of using so much money just to send someone to space. but then since it’s gonna happen anyway, why not cherish it together? :D he walked on moon for a while then came back, we all yay-ed and then go back to our own lives. yay.
At least with the first launch, some ulu ulu Malaysian will know what is astronaut, better than teaching in textbook of what is rocket, although the price may be kind of high….
With this first launch, indicated Malaysia at least try to touch the sky, so hope more and more young Malaysian will be inspired by this launch, make the future space rocket printed Made In Malaysia(Something which need 1 century to happen)
I didn’t even watch the launch because I couldn’t be bothered. I also think that the money can be put to better use. :D
Hey I think those who searched for Nurin’s autopsy photos are sick people but without knowing what are the real purposes, I’d rather assume that they are not up to something bad with the photos. I didn’t watch the launch because I was somewhere else watching TV. Sending off an astronaut is indeed something amazing, but I think it can only grab hold of my interest when we can finally launch a rocket of our own into the space. Besides, the Americans and Russians have sent so many astronauts and shuttles into the space like they do it as a daily activity, so I don’t think there’s much to celebrate if we’d sent one up. After all, it took us SO LONG to send one up. Well, could have used the money into some other uses though.
I wonder why didn’t the bolehan say “MALAYSIA BOLEH”. instead of saying ‘im fine’… duhhhhh
i also think that they are wasting money and nothing to be proud, unless the rocket is belong to us, not US!!
i rather they use the monies to subsidy the expensive toll fees and petrol!
david david…
ok, i donno wat’s wrong with me, we shall talk tonite :)
Hey, Joyce, I am already in Singapore ;). So far it’s always been work, work, work and I foresee that this will continue in the coming weeks!
Jasmyin - I was at the gym, and I actually walked out (with the gym towel) to HSL to watch :p I’m not sure if it was pride that I felt, but it sure was pleasant.
Thank you, Che-cheh! Same to you as well!
Conancat - Yea there are a lot of sick dudes out there who enjoy looking at puke-inducing materials.
Hey who walked on the moon for a while? Our Angkasawan? He won’t even be performing a space walk!
Vhanded - So, now that the “ulu ulu Malaysian” know, do you think it’s a ‘value-added’ type of knowledge? Hehe. It’s like GK, you just *know*, and that’s it. That’s why you’re right when you say it is (very) expensive!
Rocked made in Malaysia ah? Uhm… I wouldn’t bet on that!
Day-dreamer - Heh, national headline ok!
Jimmy - I don’t think we’ll be launching our own rocket anytime soon, at least not in the near future. In fact, at the rate we’re going, I don’t think it’s gonna happen at all. Never. And I hope it stays that way because it’s non-value-added, as far as our country’s socio-economy is concerned.
Xin - I don’t think it’d make much of a difference :). It’s trivial…
Chooi Peng - This rocket also doesn’t belong to the US :). Yes, the (mis-)management of public funds in Malaysia is beyond ridiculous.
Eileen - At first I didn’t understand how someone who’s neither a doctor nor a counsellor could be of any help to you! But you haven’t told me what was wrong yet…
