My Singaporean Odyssey
Singapore has been treating me okay. Since touching down on Tuesday, I’ve been working til about 6.30pm daily. I do drop by my blog and check my emails once in a while but I never had the energy to write a decent entry. Everyday, after dinner and everything, I’m simply too exhausted to do anything else.

Our apartment has three rooms, and that’s perfect because there’re only three of us here (well, in the first week, at least). One of us will be leaving tomorrow though, so there’ll be only two persons occupying this three-room unit. I was thinking that maybe we can even throw a party or something……

That’s my room for three weeks. I hate the idea of putting two single beds together because I need to choose which bed to sleep on. But that is not something that we can change. The apartment is quite near our working place, and it’s pretty easy to get food and groceries nearby. It is, however, quite far from the city so it’s a little boring here in this part of the island.

Our working place for these three weeks is in Jurong - the place where industrial giants congregate. We’re here to run some tests, and troubleshoot problems - if any. You know, I really want to tell you more about the nature of my work here but I have vowed not to blog about my job online :p

Moving about Singapore is not an issue, as we’ve rented a car for the duration of our stay here. After leaving our workplace just now, we went to this La Mei Zi buffet-steamboat restaurant located somewhere near Beach Road. We’ve been working hard on weekdays (even today - a Saturday), so it’s only apt that we tried something different.

That red-coloured soup you see in that yin-yang steamboat was damn spicy I tell you. The place was packed (we queued to get a table, ok!), and the (lack of) air-conditioner was not helpful at all. I felt like I was in a sauna. We were later taught the correct way to enjoy the steamboat (and the soup tasted less spicy!) - thanks to the restaurant manager. Excellent service I’d say.
That meal set us back by some SGD70 (to be shared among 4 people). We’re still trying to think of interesting places to go, things to do, nice restaurants to patronize… Any recommendations? Maybe a little shopping will be nice too……
P/s: Don’t miss the Formula 1 showdown, ya?
Edit @ 2129hrs, Oct 21: I was checking the schedule for the Brazilian GP today on Astro’s website (don’t ask me why - it’s an old habit) even though I’ll be watching it via StarHub. I rarely go directly to ESPN’s site for schedules. So anyway, on Astro’s site, what I got was this:

Can anyone tell me the difference between the first and the third set of programmes?
21 Oct 2007 narrowband

Vivo City! Sentosa Island! Chinatown! Clark Quay! Holland Village! Bugis Junction! Night Safari! So many things to do! :P Khao lui? Haha! Go meet ECL!!! ;)
Wah… 3 wks there… cool! Don’t forget to hv fun, ok? :)
BTW, wah… go back at 6.30pm already so exhausted?? Mm hai ma? Oi, dun grow old so fast!! :p
harry’s bar, clarke quay, bugis st… okay, i’ve lost my list somewhere. been planning to go there this year, but immigration dept as usual was a major PITA. you go explore lah, and then tell me okay! ehehehhe
p/s: if you manage to find where to get teh tarik ice cream, please let me knowwwww :D
Clarke Quay for clubbing spots and Esplanade for night scenery & sight seeing. There’s this extreme reverse bungy ride on a giant rubber ball called G-Max, also somewhere in clarke quay. Shopping haven, of course the almighty Orchard Road. Remember to try out their famous curry puff and I like the DQ ice cream along the orchard road too.
Eh that steamboat looks a lot like the one we had at our bloggers’ makan makan. Same concept ah?
Aiyoh, you knock off work at 6.30pm also exhausted ah? What kind of ‘intense’ work are you doing in Singapore? *grin* J/k la.
Hey, I love that cute Narrowband@Singapore button you Photoshopped into your photos. Coolness itself!
Looking forward to the F1 results today. I’m hoping that they’ll end level in points. Muahahahaha!
When are you going to throw a party in Singapore? Can i be invited too :-p Will fly down to Singapore from KL…. hehehe…
Anyway, have you visited the Vivo City… i heard it is a very huge and nice shopping mall. My last trip there, the shopping mall was not fully opened so i missed it.
The spicy steamboat is not my cup of tea. I tried it in Chongqing during my vacation there last year. It was extremely hot and spicy for me, after eating that my whole mouth was numb.
Enjoy ur stay in Singapore eh!
i’m interested with the spicy soup based steamboat..
LOL
the last time i visited Spore was 2 decades ago..
it’s time to pay a visit to that island again :)
SD70.00 is a lot for a steamboat dinner. Cost of living in S’pore is so high.
Angel - Wahhh Wahhh Wahhh!! Khao ECL? LOLOL… Does seem like there’re lots of things that can be done here. The first week I’ve been preoccupied with work most of the time, we rarely had fun. But working in itself was kinda fun… LOL. 6.30pm, sometimes 7… summore sleep late… haihs… mengantukness…
Julee - Immigration kacau u kah? Apersal? Takdak passport? Eh nowadays can make passport very fast ma, less than 5 days kau tim. There’s a branch in PJ that lets you do it in one day summore (my friend told me one, I didn’t try). I explored alot of Jurong liao… you interested? KEkekekek…
Oh we went to the National Science Center for a Japanese buffet dinner on Thursday ;p
Aiks Teh Tarik Ice-cream? So cute wan?!?! Ok *hunting mode*
Victor - Aiyo clubbing can blow a hole in my pocket. Yes we saw that bungy ride last night. A friend tried it before in the past and suggested that we tried it as well. You know what? No thanks… I don’t think I can take that G :p
Rinnah - EXACTLY!!! That’s what I told my friends!!! I said it was similar to the one I had in Inner Mongolia a coupla weeks back! What same concept? I think everything same! The soup! But then in Inner Mongolia it wasn’t buffet-style lar. Here we take anything we want, as much as we want, anytime.
They spoke with thick China-accent too. Btw, it turned out that you have to dip the food into some oil so it doesn’t taste so spicy! Before we learnt that, the soup made everything tasted spicy - we couldn’t enjoy the taste itself. Too hot liao - My lips felt like Fantasia Barrino’s.
That button I got from internet wan - I just edited a little bit and dump it into my photos hehe. Thanks!
Level in points ah.. then they’ll see the number of victories the drivers have! But that’ll be interesting!
TZ - Party? LOL… at the rate it’s going, it’s unlikely that there’ll be one. Vivo City - that’s our destination next weekend.
My mouth went numb too but then after a while, the manager taught us how to eat. Gotta dip the food into the ma yau (sesame oil), and it’ll become less spicy! Try it the next time!
Chen - Really wan, that steamboat really reminded me of the one we had in Inner Mongolia leh. 2 decades ago? Hahaha… well, tell me about it, I’ve been here no more than (only) 5 times myself.
Bengbeng - Sorry, forgot to mention. The total was SGD70, and there were 4 of us. I think it’s still not so bad.
Aiyaks… no no, u misunderstood liao! I not ask u to khao ECL! Hoi.. kenot khao her… I jz ask u to go meet her hehehe… she veli fun + farnies woman hehe…
Go to the night safari… last Christmas, we missed out on that… cos not enuff time… and it was raining when we wanted to go… :)

Vivo City is nice… Especially the Sky Park on a Saturday night. It seemed like a very relaxing place to hangout, especially for the younger peeps. Kao Lui? Adoi…… -__-”
Julee - You can come to SG and wait for your traveling partner oso mar :p Not centralise ka? No comment about that… I live in the central region, it seems like everything *is* doable there ;p
Darren - Hey, thanks for the recommendations. I went to Vivo City last night - didn’t do much shopping though. It was damn crowded man…
Ah Queensway, yes. I bought my Total 90 from there during my last trip here actually. I agree that in Singapore you never run out of food ;p
