The Year That Was 2007
It’s the time of the year again to review, recap and remember some of the highlights and most memorable entries on Narrowband.org. As many of you did not start reading me from January onwards, here’s an opportunity for you to walk down Narrowband.org’s memory lane (I know for a fact that at least one reader used to dig up my archives and read all the way til my maiden post on Narrowband.org!). The following are the selected entries, sorted according to the month in which they were published.
January 2007
And as the Internship Draws to an End… (Read)
One of the main highlights during this time of the year was my internship with a company that gave me much more than just a working experience. It marked the beginning of an extraordinary friendship that I thought I could only dream of.
How to Create a CSS Photo Gallery (Read)
I did a CSS Photo Gallery based on an online tutorial, and modified the codes to fancify the whole thing. I then wrote my own tutorial on how to do that - and for the first time in my life, I experienced the “Digg effect”.
Widening Narrowband.org (Read)
Some of you might have seen the original Narrowband.org layout - a two-column theme called Intense, created by Sadish Bala. I then altered the CSS to widen the layout and accomodate another column.
February 2007
2000 Bloggers (Read)
Tino Buntic’s 2000 Bloggers project created quite a lot of buzz on the internet. I was one of the 2000 bloggers. And then, somehow things got abit ugly. Technorati didn’t like the idea. Tino abandoned the project and someone else took over. I still think it was a pretty neat idea!
Pride of KL: RM400K Public Washroom (Read)
I tried out the RM400,000 public washroom in the heart of Bukit Bintang and took loads of pics while inside. The sophisticated washroom had been the talk of town since it was opened to public.
VMY2007: The Eye on Malaysia (Read)
In conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2007, I started a series of VMY2007 blog entries with the first one being my experience onboard The Eye on Malaysia ferris wheel at Lake Titingwasa. It was one of the weekends in the month of February and there were fireworks and other special performances at night.
March 2007
Earthquakes Are Not Fun (Read)
For the first time in my life, I felt tremors. Apparently it originated from the Sumatran islands a few hours earlier. I was on the 6th floor of my apartment alone when I felt the building sway.
What Have A’s Got to Do With It? (Read)
I read a couple of interesting news reports about the 2006 SPM results, and wrote a blog entry on one of them. I submitted the entry to The Star, which subsequently published my views the next Sunday, in Star Education.
April 2007
Earliest Birthday Celebration, Ever (Read)
My friends celebrated my birthday, even though it was still more than 30 days away! Certainly an interesting way to make it memorable. They bought me a tie, which I wore to an interview. It brought me enough luck to pass the entire recruitment exercise ;).
The Day I Registered to be a Voter (Read)
I registered myself at a nearby post office to become a voter. Although it is our right to vote, on my part I feel it’s more like a responsibility. I would like to hereby remind all Narrowband.org readers, young or old, to exercise your rights as a voter.
May 2007
VMY2007: Taman Negara (Read)
I joined a group of friends on an expedition to the Kuala Tahan National Park! We had so much fun in the rain, in the jungle, at the waterfalls, in the rivers and… in the caves! Absolutely loved it! Since it was related to tourism, I made the blog entry a VMY2007 entry as well.
How to Resize Multiple Photos in Photoshop (Read) and…
How to Create Mini Polaroids in Photoshop (Read)
I wrote two Photoshop tutorials as part of my How To: series. The first was on how to batch-resize your photos and the second one was on creating mini-polaroids. Many Narrowband.org readers didn’t know that you could actually resize multiple photos using Photoshop, so that tutorial (coupled with screenshots) proved to be quite a hit.
Spirit of Love - The Taiwanese Hokkien Series (Read)
If you’re a Hokkien speaker, and are subscribed to Astro, you’ve probably heard of Spirit of Love before (yi nan wang - 意难忘). I blogged about that series, and threw in one of the soundtracks as well. That entry is still generating a lot of traffic (from Malaysia and Singapore) even today! Immensely popular, that show ;)
The Day I Bought a Ferrari F430 (Read)
Like (almost) everyone else, I have always dreamt of owning a Ferrari. In May, I actually bought myself one. It was one of the toughest decisions I had to make, because the car was neither practical nor convenient. Yet, it was so desirable I just couldn’t resist laying my (entire) hands on one.
Closing a Chapter, Opening Another (Read)
After 4 years of engineering study, I made it out safe and sound, but not before sitting for an emotional last paper one fine May morning. Coursemates, acquaintances and barely-know-whos started shaking hands with each other before leaving. I dedicated a video to my friends in a blog entry.
Thrice Plagiarized: I’m Flattered Beyond Words (Read)
You’ve probably seen a blogging tips tag which was being passed around the blogosphere at one time - I was one of the contributors and I said bloggers should *never*, ever plagiarize. That’s because I was a victim a few times, and I wrote one special blog entry about the plagiarism that I encountered.
June 2007
VMY2007: Taman Pertanian Malaysia (Read)
Another VMY2007 entry was written in June, this time it was on Taman Pertanian Malaysia (at Bukit Cahaya, Shah Alam). For the first time in my life, I visited that ‘agricultural park’ and cycled inside. Took lots of photos that morning, and that entry is still driving in traffic today.
That Important Phone Call (Read)
The turning point in my life came when I received an important phone call on one June morning. It marked the beginning of my career in the marine automation industry.
July 2007
Announcing the Demise of my Harddisk (Read)
My harddisk died on me. It contained some of my most valuable photos, files and documents - most of them were gone. I did however, do a round of backing-up just a couple of weeks before that fateful day, luckily. But still, I wish I had backed up more :(
August 2007
Faculty of Engineering: Class of 2007 (Read)
My convocation took place at the newly-built Grand Hall of our university. It was a wet, wet convocation day but it failed to dampen our camwhoring spirit.
VMY2007: Malaysia International Fireworks Competition (Read)
Also in conjunction with VMY2007, the Malaysia International Firefworks Competition was held in Putrajaya and I was there a couple of times to shoot the display. I was using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 at that time.
September 2007
Jacky Cheung World Tour 2007: Kuala Lumpur (Read)
Blogging started to slow down a little bit starting this time of the year, because of work. Nonetheless, I managed to take some time off to catch Jacky Cheung live, in Kuala Lumpur.
October 2007
Engineers and Relationships (Read)
The month of October was relatively inactive for Narrowband.org, because updates were all-time-low. One of the most memorable blog entry that month was on my experience attending a colleague’s wedding dinner. (And how I began worrying about hooking up with the right girl)
November 2007
Travelogue: Singapore in Photos (Read)
My first working trip out of the country was to Singapore. I had the opportunity to meet up with some friends and hang out. One of them was a friend whom I first met while doing my industrial training earlier in the year. It was such a delight to see her again! I compiled some photos taken throughout the trip, and wrote a simple travelogue.
My First Time… (Read)
After coming back from Singapore, I was determined to get myself a new toy. I knew I had to. I went down to Sungai Wang on one beautiful afternoon and bought myself a Canon EOS 400D with a 17-85mm IS USM lens. I then took my new toy to FRIM for the first time, to shoot bugs in extreme macro!
December 2007
Live & Loud KL 07: Acoustic (Read)
The Live and Loud KL Acoustic was all about clean undistorted acoustics coupled with superb vocals and showmanship. James Morrison, Rick Price and Dayang Nurfaizah were the line-ups of the night, held at the KLCC Convention Center. I recorded some audio clips in mp3 from the concert as well.
An Old Friend (Read)
I broke my own rule when I wrote a *rather* personal entry and published on Narrowband.org. The entry was in fact, written quite some time ago, but it was only recently that I decided to complete it, and publish it. I don’t think I’ll do that often in the future, though.
There you go, a brief walk-through Narrowband.org’s history. Do you have any favorite entries? This is what I like about blogging, actually - you get to recall what you were going through at a certain point in time. And by the by… Narrowband.org turns *ONE* today! I bought the domain a couple of days before this day last year, but the first entry was actually published on 2006’s Boxing Day.
Thank you all for the support thus far, I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing. Keep coming back for more ;).
