Strangers on Facebook | Narrowband.orgOne fine morning, I decided do something about my pool of pending friend requests on Facebook. I had been trying to recall if I knew them, before approving the requests. I studied their profile but they rang no bell. I’d be more than happy to approve if we had at least something in common - like going to the same school or uni, or having met at some event before. But no, some of these requests appear to be very random. So I like to initiate a conversation in order to get to know that person better. And I like to do away with the ubiquitous “Hi, intro pls” one-liner. So I jump straight into something like this:

You see, my point is that, I really had no idea who this person was. I didn’t even know she was from my university or not. I simply assumed that she was from my university. It turned out that she was not (also, obviously I’m not really interested in knowing which faculty she was from, because I don’t know what FSSK stands for even today). And let’s not discuss grammar here. Moving on now, to the next person, whom I noticed had many of my university friends in his list. Since we had so many mutual friends, I thought he must be someone from my university too. So I initiated a message like this:

*Speechless*. Needless to say, I have not replied them since these exchanges took place. Last night when I was out with my friends at a popular mamak joint, we talked about this and one of us mentioned this ’stranger’s name. Apparently, he added my friends too but none of them knew who he was. And the reason he gave for adding me was just classic. It just doesn’t get any better than that. What do you think is the darnest reason for adding someone on Facebook? Can you top that?

Edit: By the by, if you’re a fellow blogger and reader, by all means, look me up on Facebook! :)
