2008 Singapore GP Weekend
Posted by narrowband - 14/10/08 at 11:10:39 pmMy apologies for the short (unplanned!) hiatus. I have been pretty busy lately. Today I want to share with you photos taken during my trip down to Singapore for the night race. Photos taken during the race itself can be found in my previous post.

As I only bought the Race Day ticket, I had the whole of Saturday free. Met up with some friends and went shooting around the city.

A large crowd was starting to build up at Suntec, just by the track when we arrived. The thunderous roar of the race cars’ engines could be heard as far as the underground MRT station.

A little boy with a pair of ear plugs.

The F1 Safety Car (though I don’t think it’s the actual car…) was on display opposite Suntec.

That’s the Chrysler which has been made a taxi in Singapore. I’m not sure how many there are in the city, but I’ve seen it a couple of times on the road.

A woman driving a topless Lexus. Nice!

We returned to Suntec at night to check out the night atmosphere by the trackside. Here’s a short video I took with my phone:
Couldn’t see anything LOL. But the sound from the engines was really cool!

On Race Day itself, we entered the circuit via Gate 3 at about 3pm in the afternoon.

Check out that microphone used to capture sounds from the track, like noises from traction control, gearshifts, etc.

We arrived shortly before the start of the Aston Martin Asia Cup race.

The interior of one of the Aston Martins. Note the paddle shifts!

Random…

The cars were ready to proceed to their starting grids.

An Aston Martin in action during the race.

Fans at the Marina Bay area.

Track marshals behind the track fence.

Chio volunteers. We explored the circuit hoping to find a good spot to camp later in the night.

I thought this little outdoor bar was pretty cool. It was set up outside the Esplanade.

Little Ferrari fans all dressed up for the occasion!

And look who I spotted! Little Lewis Hamilton! LOL. Needless to say, this kid attracted alotta attention that day.

At about 5pm plus we decided to look for food. The race would start at 8pm, we wanted to start looking for a camping spot early!

Food stalls were set up at the Padang, and a small stretch of road was transformed into an open-air dining area.

After dinner, we found a nice spot, and I stood there from about 6:30pm onwards.

The view from where I was standing, before sunset. Many other photographers had been there long before I arrived. Some even packed their own dinner and ate there.

After the Formula BMW race was the F1 drivers parade. As the sky was getting darker, more and more track marshals entered the circuit in preparation for the big race.

Some of you might have seen these photos in my Facebook albums already yea? Hehe. Anyway, that’s all for my 2008 Singapore GP coverage. I look forward to next year’s race!
Shorttalk: Did anyone notice Narrowband.org went haywire last week? That’s because I kinda screwed up the database while trying to upgrade WordPress. Luckily there’s a back-up of database so now everything’s been restored. *Phew*
P/s. Anyone going for Perhentian Island Challenge this weekend? See you on Thursday night! Please be punctured! LOL… :D

I can’t help but to notice that your video and the 3rd pic from the last were all taken in a position waaay higher than the spectators’ heads.
