Cameron Highlands 2009
Posted by narrowband - 11/02/09 at 11:02:00 pmThere really isn’t much to do in Cameron Highlands besides checking out tea plantations, strawberry farms, cactus nurseries and stuff like that. Some people don’t feel like going for a holiday anymore just by imagining the lack of activities that awaits them. Let me teach you a trick – Bring along an SLR camera and you’ll enjoy wherever you go. Of course, nothing beats holidaying with your best friends too!

It’s safe to say that you won’t be able to find as many strawberries in any other parts of Malaysia. Cameron Highlands has some of the freshest tea leaves, vegetables and strawberries in the country.

We’re law-abiding citizens of Malaysia. Don’t play play!

The thing I never liked about going up Cameron Highlands is the super winding roads. Look what they did to YS…:

Yes, plastic bags do come in handy. But YS didn’t puke at all. Sometimes it’s a psychological thing. You just want a plastic bag on standby to feel better :p

Upon arriving we camwhored in every corner of our apartment, with the balcony being our favorite.

A large mirror was hung on the wall, so I played with my wide-angle lens to capture an almost-perfectly symmetrical photo as Boon walked into himself out to the living hall.

We cooked our own steamboat dinner that night, before converting the dining table into a mahjong/gyn rummy table. I brought along Duncan’s copy of Slumdog Millionaire, which we watched that night too (I didn’t mind watching twice)!

We slept really late and got up almost morningless. It was a rainy day and we didn’t feel like going anywhere at all. Cooked half-boiled egg with the warm water in the electric kettle.

Our Olympic council-endorsed champion breakfast set.

We made a trip to the lobby and then off to some potted plants nursery.

LX doing what he does best – the trademark expression!

Later that evening we visited The Smokehouse Hotel and Restaurant – It was a super cosy place!

Mom told me she had brought me to this place when I was little. But last week when I went with my friends it rang no bell :-/

Look there was actually a fireplace too. Pretty cool eh. Something you don’t get to see in Malaysia often! This building was built very, very long time ago!

We had our tea there and that simple meal almost depleted our financial reserves there and then.

Chirping birds are nearby when you dine, but once you move away they’d close in. I just love the setting of that place.

More camwhoring when we got back to the apartment carpark!

Since we were on a high, we did our lobby jumps as well..

My legs visible wtf -.-

After dinner, we decided to make our own chocolate fondue, with some improvisation – we used the steamboat pot and melted our own chocolate plus full cream milk!

We bought tonnes of marshmallows and strawberries for this. YS obviously loved it very much…

As if we hadn’t had enough of strawberries already, the following day we went on our own-strawberry-plucking-spree.

Two grown up dudes loving every bit of the excitement there…

We checked out with two trays of strawberries, each weighing about 1kg I think! They were however not the *very* sweet kind. The pre-packed kind on sale at the counter outside tasted much better – so we bought a couple of those packs as well. As a result we’re now qualified strawberry wholesalers.

Lastly, a HDR view from our apartment balcony, bracketed (three shots) between -+1.33eV. In my next entry I shall put up some bokehlicious photos taken from the strawberry farms, cactus nurseries and other closeups!

kyh – You love HDR images eh? Me too!
Xin – Hahaha… I can see why, really. I felt a lil uncomfy as well. Luckily it got better by the time we were about to reach.
Day-dreamer – That’s nearer too if you’re coming from the north (Penang, etc). We were from KL, so Tapah made more sense! Yup I know the SP there got new road, which I’m sure is much better!
Shen – LOL all the strawberries were gone within a few days! :p
Kelly – Hahaha.. yes.. not cheap at all. But once in a blue moon oklah. Pics arrrrrrr all on FB!
