Bali, Indonesia (Part 3)
Posted by narrowband - 03/07/08 at 01:07:23 amThis has got to be the most random entry ever. Haha. I saw the pictures I’ve watermarked and uploaded for my Bali trip in my flickr, which reminded me that I still have unfinished business! LOL.

So Desu Neh… (2)
Posted by narrowband - 22/06/08 at 06:06:02 pmA couple of days ago I was informed of a possible delay in the project I’m working on. Yesterday it was confirmed and therefore I will be allowed to return KL. I have never been out overseas this long before, so it will be nice to go back, chill with friends and family, and recharge. Sure, I can chill in Japan too while waiting for all systems to be up again, but they wouldn’t like to pay me everyday just to ‘chill’, right? If the delay is substantial then it’s actually economically-wiser to fly me home, and send me here again when everything’s resolved. Unless of course during this period I’m assigned to another project.

Tokyo, Japan
Posted by narrowband - 17/06/08 at 03:06:04 pmI want to thank you all for the kind birthday wishes last month. I got most of them one day late, even though they were sent between 0000hrs and 0100hrs on my birthday. That’s because I didn’t have telco coverage at that time. We were somewhere outside Tokyo Bay. I received a birthday cake from the company too, which was pretty cool. I and another American engineer both celebrated birthdays on board the vessel together.

Office
Posted by narrowband - 28/05/08 at 11:05:28 amI noticed that many people usually take photos of the view from their office windows, especially if they’re overseas for work or business meeting or something like that. I, too, have decided to post up some of mine…view from my ‘office’, pretty similar throughout the day. Heck, even throughout the month (for those of you who know, yeah… it’s been that long).

Yes. That was taken during good weather. Usually it’s only the sea, and sky. 65% of the time (since we’re not too far off shore), you get to see land. 0% of the time though, you get to see whales and dolphins.

Public Shower
Posted by narrowband - 10/05/08 at 12:05:29 pmFor many of you who’ve stepped foot on Japanese soil before, I bet there was one thing that you didn’t do while you were here. It’s something that most of us are not accustomed to. It even borders on absurdity. And I know that if I tell this to some of my friends back home, they’ll say it sounds a little wrong as well. While I’m sure you can find similar practices in other parts of the world, in my case I experienced it right here in Japan. It was a culture shock of sorts. I don’t know what we usually call it back home (because it’s so uncommon nobody actually bothered to come up with a term), but here they simply call it ‘public shower’.

So Desu Neh…
Posted by narrowband - 04/05/08 at 10:05:06 pmTo a certain extent I think I’m lucky to have taken up Japanese 5 months ago. Although I’m still far from fluent, I imagine it would be much more difficult to communicate with the locals here, who speak little English (and a lot of Japanese, despite knowing that you can’t understand much of what they’re telling you anyway).

Yes la I censored my bookmark-cum-namecard!

Bali, Indonesia (Part 2)
Posted by narrowband - 12/04/08 at 01:04:03 amWe took many travel brochures from several tourist information centers and studied the daily packages that the tour companies offered. Most of them included transportation and a meal, and would cover an entire day. And the price, although clearly printed, was usually still negotiable.

On the third day we went to Ubud, Uluwatu and Jimbaran – all in a single tour. It was worth every penny. We had arranged for the day’s tour one day in advance (in fact, we actually made the phone call the night before – they were pretty flexible). Ubud was about one and half hours drive away from our hotel.

Bali, Indonesia (Part 1)
Posted by narrowband - 28/03/08 at 12:03:45 amI just realized that it’d be too overwhelming to include all photos in just one blog entry. Therefore I’ve decided to break it into two parts. My trip to Bali was easily one of the best holiday trips I’ve ever had. The weather everyday was perfect, and we fully utilized the time (and money too -_-” – more on this later…) we had there.

It was the first time Jay and Rain returned to Malaysia since furthering their studies in Canada and the US respectively. We had planned the trip a couple of months in advance, with each of us booking our own flight tickets online (which also ended up in us paying different amounts, lol!).

Gold Coast, Australia
Posted by narrowband - 02/03/08 at 12:03:46 pmSeriously now, if it wasn’t for Air Asia X’s cheap fares, I don’t think we’d have gone to Australia for a holiday. The return tickets for an adult cost RM1xxx, and the 5-day tour cost a total of RM4xxx per adult (including flight and accommodation). That’s pretty cheap if you ask me!

Yes, my family went for this tour with some promo fares during the holidays. Both sis were on holiday so I took a few days off from work to join them. So far, in Australia, Air Asia X only flies to Gold Coast and it’s one of the airline’s hottest routes! Now Everyone Can Fly to Gold Coast!
